This robustness is the main reason why RS-485 is well suited for long-distance networking in noisy environment. It is designed to handle long-distance communication and is known for its robustness and noise immunity. RS485 is a serial data transmission interface standard that enables communication with sensors attached to the same bus (wires). The RS485 network is wrongly referred to as a “2 wires plus shield” network. The ideal RS485 network requires a dedicated wire for ground. This cable enables RS485 communication between our EC and MX Smart Sensor boards and development kits and our free GasLab software. GasLab® makes it easy to export data into a .CSV file that can be imported into any industry-standard software or spreadsheet. Our USB development kits use GasLab® software for setup, calibration, data logging, and real-time data analysis. Custom FTDI USB – RS485 Cable with Molex connector, fits all GasLab EC and MX Smart Sensor Boards and Development Kits.

So, how do I wire my RS485 devices? After sending the order, you will automatically receive an email with a summary, and the data for the bank / SEPA wire transfer. With Modbus, BACnet and Profibus, A/B labeling refers A as the negative green wire and B as the positive red wire, in the definition of the D-sub connector and M12 circular connector, as can be seen in Profibus guides. Because a mark (logic 1) condition is traditionally represented (e.g. in RS-232) with a negative voltage and space (logic 0) represented with a positive one, A may be considered the non-inverting signal and B as inverting. This section also defines the logic states 1 (off) and 0 (on), by the polarity between A and B terminals. These are used in programmable logic controllers and on factory floors. Combined with the right cables, they are going to guarantee the creation of stable and functional RS485 networks. Transmission speed refers to the rate at which data is transferred between devices using the RS485 cable. As a rule of thumb, the speed in bit/s multiplied by the length in metres should not exceed 108. Thus a 50-meter cable should not signal faster than 2 Mbit/s.

The value of each termination resistor should be equal to the cable characteristic impedance (typically, 120 ohms for twisted pairs). RS485 cables typically consist of twisted pairs of wires with a characteristic impedance of 120 ohms, which helps to minimize signal reflections and interference. The cables also have a balanced line configuration, which helps to further enhance noise rejection and signal integrity. It gets away most of the time with this configuration, with the shield draining noise and providing the ground reference at the same time. 100% humidity, click the “humidity 100%” button and the reference will be stored. TXSoil can transmit the humidity to a Web server or to a VisualVision’s display / concentrator such as DisplayRX or ControlHUB or RXTXeasy GSM – with adjustable interval, remaining for the rest of the time in standby with very low consumption. TXsoil is a compact and low consumption sensor that can measure and transmit the humidity of the ground WiFi or RF or GSM. We tried to build an organic system so that whoever gets a TXtemp, TXsoil sensor or a bridge for RS232 or ModBus sensors and devices like TXdata can immediately use them without wasting time in configurations (and we also took the opportunity to insert some things into our system some “extra” not foreseen by the standards!).

TXsoil can be configured and read with a smartphone or PC, with just a few clicks. 24 AWG solid wires, which are typically used in Cat 5 cables, can break easily when connected to a screw terminal block, which does not provide any strain relief. And even worse, if you have a non opto-isolated device installed on that network, any noise could “drain” to ground through the device itself instead of flowing through the ground terminal at the end of the line, damaging the device in the process! RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) mode transmits 8-bit messages as two 4-bit hexadecimal characters in a continuous stream. The two values provide a sufficient margin for a reliable data transmission even under severe signal degradation across the cable and connectors. Circuits may be terminated on screw terminals, D-subminiature connectors, or other types of connectors. There is also the GSM version; especially useful when only one sensor is needed in a remote location where other types of transmission cannot be used. Converters between RS-485 and RS-232 are available to allow a personal computer to communicate with remote devices. This way, the lines will be biased to known voltages and nodes will not interpret the noise from undriven lines as actual data; without biasing resistors, the data lines float in such a way that electrical noise sensitivity is greatest when all device stations are silent or unpowered.
