    <br> The restaurant serves authentic dishes from Laos, including Crispy Pork Belly Soup, Green Papaya Salad, and Crispy Rice Lettuce Wraps. The “Petit Plats” section of the menu shines with dishes like duck rilletes with mustard and hazelnut; artfully presented smoked trout dip; and escargot with broccolini in a lemony, garlicky sauce enhanced with anchovies. This rich and creamy mac and cheese made with Jarlsberg, grana padano, and white cheddar comes with a baked cheese topping and has never left the menu. Don’t sleep on the other items though; dishes like the Marinated Avocado Salad are a lighter accompaniment to the mac and cheese and still packed with flavor. The push pops are to die for; try the original chocolate flavor or branch out with flavors like Earl Grey. In between, I sipped on local craft beers, tasted small-batch organic chocolates, and ordered a smoked cocktail at a speakeasy. Owned by a local married couple, The Guest House is located within walking distance of downtown and several of Raleigh’s best restaurants. She allows the local ingredients of the South to influence dishes she grew up making while living in India and the Bronx.<br>

In fact, chef Oscar Diaz also got a James Beard nod in 2019. On the night I was there, the restaurant was running a special for whole-fried lionfish, an invasive species that’s good for eating. The fish arrived at the table spikes and all, but the mild, buttery meat and light, crisp coating made up for the challenge of eating it.<br>

At the January 2020 Fencing Grand Prix in Doha, Qatar, he was the top seed and won the gold medal in individual épée defeating 2019 French team world champion Alexandre Bardenet 15-6 in the final, and that same month at the Heidenheim World Cup in Germany, he won a bronze medal in individual épée. Embarrassed and angered, a few days later the Russian Fencing Federation fired the Bidas’ former coach, the highly regarded Russian national épée team head coach Alexander Glazunov — “due to the flight of his athletes to the United States without the consent” of the Russian Fencing Federation.<br>
